She'd grow wings and they'd live in the tree I say!

That randomness aside, this is a commision for :iconochrejelly: It's been a pleasure to work on it, because I once again got to do something detailed with coloured pencils, and he gave me freedom to do practically what I wanted.

I'd also like to mention that the harph is stylized and thus the placement of the strings as well as their number is inacurate.

I hope you'll enjoy it.

*edit*

I’ve got a bunch questions pertaining this image, that I replied to on a spot, but I don’t think I gave any satisfying answers. And therefore I gave it more thought, and so now that I know how it all happened, I thought I'd share with you. Keep in mind, that I'm not much of a writer ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There once was a powerful wizard, who had everything he ever wanted. Well, almost everything...

He had a beautiful castle with many servants, he had an amazing garden with speaking animals, and moving plants. He had a library with books, that’d read themselves to whoever held them in their hands, with pictures that’d show up on all the walls and the characters in them would move. He had his very own dragon, and mirror that’d only say truth, and many other wonders that no human eye has seen. He also was young, and handsome, and many girls would give up everything to be invited to his castle. And he would invite them quite frequently, although they bored him, and so he’d never let them stay for long.

And so the thing that he happened to treasure the most, was the girl living in his garden. She was a simple girl, yet very beautiful, and she had talent for music and an enchanting voice. The wizard could have everything in the world he desired, except for her love. It wasn’t even that he loved the girl himself – many thought he was incapable of loving anyone. It was girl’s inaccessibility, that made her so appealing to him.

Nobody knew how the girl found herself in the garden. Some claimed she stumbled upon there as a child, and woke up some sort of compassion in his heart, so he let her stay. Others claimed that as a baby she captured his with his beauty, and so he stole her from his parents. There’s also been a theory that he’s made her himself, and yet some didn’t believe that someone so cold and heartless could create something innocent and beautiful.

The girl lived in the garden peacefully, and loved all its plants and animals, yet she never had a human companion. (except for a wizard, who might have not been a human at all)
And thus as much as she enjoyed her life, she always felt as if something was missing…

And so it happened that a young man sneaked once into the garden. He watched her as she played and singed, and he couldn’t take her eyes of her. At first the girl didn’t notice him at all, then slowly she begun to realize that she has been watched. Finally she spoke to him, and asked him to come out.

After that he’d visit her often, and as time progressed they grew closer to each other. Finally, one day, the boy said.
“I know that you have everything your hear desires here, and the world outside is not as perfect and beautiful… but if the wizard finds out that I’m here, he won’t let us see each other. Would you run away with me?”
The girl was in love with the boy, so she agreed, but at the very moment that he was helping her up the wall around the garden the wizard appeared. The sky darkened with his fury, and the plants wilted and bowed to the ground.

“Is that how you repay me, for all I gave to you!” He roared.

The girl replied that as beautiful as the garden is, she feels like she’s been imprisoned there. She also tried to convince him that she’s in love with the boy, and that she’d choose that over everything in the world.

The wizard understood that she’d rather die than to be separated from her love.

“You will stay in this garden on your own will” Said the wizard casting the spell on the young man. “From now on, he’ll live as one of the animals in this garden, but none of them will be able to tell you which one is he. He himself will forget who he is, and he’ll think that he’s been here forever.”

After these words the wizard disappeared in his castle, leaving the crying girl on the ground.

And so she stayed, and she sung and played as she always did, only her melodies got sadder and more melancholy with time… And she played in the waterfall at her feet the fish listened. One of them particularly interested, was feeling that it was in love with the girl, although it didn’t know why…

The wizard went back to his normal activities, but they bored him more so than usually, and he found himself loosing interest in everything. He kept hearing the heartbreaking melody from the garden, and finally a miracle happened. His heart, which so many people thought was made of stone, begun to feel.

He looked at her from his tower and whispered.

“If you’ll find out which one of these animals is yours, he’ll regain his true form…And I’m sure that you will… In the meantime, I’ll do all that’s in my power to make you love me, but not through spells and magic… And then… well then it’s you who’ll decide. If you choose him I’ll admit my defeat… If not, you’ll be free to stay with me- on your own will, not by mine”

Swallow your sin,
And hide your face,
My life depends on your fall from grace.

Gorgeous! I've always loved this concept. ^_~

I love your choice of colors in this, and you certainly have your own unique style that is as pleasing as it is refreshing and impressive, but what really blows my mind is the complexity of the composition. I think I would have to work long and hard and do at least a dozen preliminary sketches and concept layouts in order to achieve the kind of depth, balance, and appeal that you have here. You haver captured a sense of unique place, something that I have struggled with and struggled with and have yet to achieve in my 24 years of pretending to be an artist. Excellent work. I look forward to your next piece already!

And I love your design for that harp!
